What's hot and what's not Ibiza 2017
it is time for the yearly update on beach trends and coolness vibes in general. Ibiza is of course the place to be for coolness but I have to admit I am only observing at a distance.
I would of course love to take home the pink poster advertising the clubbing event called "Diamonds and Foam" featuring a barely dressed Paris Hilton in a cloud of white foam. Apparently Paris herself is hosting the event!
On a more homely tone I can positively say that two brands have moved from "cool, really practical" to "please get those hideous things off your feet" and these are: Teva sandals for adults and Crocs shoes for kids.
The first ones you only would want to wear if you want to be taken for a German looking for a mountain trail (for my German readers please do forgive me). I am more sorry about the Crocs, those really were practical for kids really cute with all those little shapes that you could add on, but you know being fashionable is not per se being practical.
Sometimes it is though, since this year is all about the sneakers! If you do your best you can spend up to 500 euro for a really trendy pair. Fortunately I have previously invested in a pair of immortal Adidas Stan Smith so I am fully prepared.
Footwear for the beach is still dominated by flip flops!
Another rising and I have to say slightly disturbing male trend, are the short long pants. In my old days when I still lived in Naples if we saw a guy wearing such pants we always mockingly referred to his likely flooded kitchen. Now I am afraid it is not a joke and you see perfectly normal young men with pants way above their ankles. I guess I will have to get used to it.
On the beach accessories side Decathlon is visible everywhere. I absolutely love their tag line "Sports for all and all for sports". From parasols to beach tennis rackets you can recognize their proprietary brands everywhere.
Last but not least I would like to add an area which fell under my radar only recently, cycling garments. I have always considered cyclists and their gear as the real losers of the sport world but I have to say that at least amateurs are trying to do their best to polish up their image. So even here in Ibiza you can see enough of these (mostly men) with their carbon frame bikes and designers jerseys trying to look cool among the jet ski dudes. Long way to go guys but keep the faith.
