Humanity in transit

Once again I am at the airport. Not one of the usual business trips this time, something completely different. I will tell you about it later, but first I want to spend a few words on the topic of being at the airport as such.
As you might know I am a very regular flyer and I do like being at the airport far more than actually sitting in the plane. The one obvious reason, that you can all guess, is of course because of the shopping. But there is also another reason, more subtle and yet a way more important. I like looking at the people and still remain completely unnoticed. Being in transit is somehow like being suspended in no man's land, you are not where you were and you are also not yet where you are going. This opens up a world of possibilities in a fertile imagination like mine.

It is worth to say that airports  are the best place to check the latest trends in:

  • business outfits,
  • travel gadgets (of course),
  • popular fiction books,
  • popular non fiction books (if you are in that kind of time wasting)
  • parfumes
  • and many other essential things in life
But they also give you the opportunity to step outside of your world and be whatever you want to be, unnoticed, unchallenged.

I still owe you though an explanation on where I am going. As hobbies go I am sometimes (not always) rather unconventional. Watching rugby is one of those quirks that I have inherited from my father.
As he is turning 75 my brother thought it might be a nice idea to take him to a Six Nations rugby match and the choice fell on Scotland against Italy at the prestigious Murrayfield stadium in Edinburgh.
Once heard of the fun destination my mom wanted to come too. Not for the match mind you, she abhors all sports, but just for the weekend out in a beautiful city.

That makes it my father, my mother, my brother and me traveling together as in the good old times. Bizarre, surreal, sweet, scary, you take your pick based on your personal experience. I won't for now, I am in suspended judgment mode. You remember? I am at the airport, in transit, neither here not there
