Lazying on the couch

Day five into maternity leave and this is the first time that I really put my feet up, and do absolutely nothing. I am laying on the couch enjoying a documentary about the life of Marlon Brando. How boring you  would say, but the fact is I love documentaries about people and places (not about nature and animals) and I am absolutely fond of cinema. So believe it or not this is a real treat for me.

Dennis and Nora are off to a typically Dutch birthday party, I was also supposed to go, but as you all know a typical Dutch birthday party is not my highest ideal of fun, so taking advantage of my late stage pregnancy I did something that I normally never do, I bailed out at the last possible moment. Besides in the condition in which I currently am there is not way that I can dress in any presentable way for a social call, therefore I prefer to quarantine myself and my hideous last month maternity clothes. You know like "The Elephant Man"! It is still me, just I cannot recognize myself in the mirror.

The family will be away a couple of hours, not too long since Dennis has wallpaper duty in the baby room, which in spite of the grumpying and the odd sceam of despair is coming along quite nicely. My lovely husband is slaving double shifts to finish the children rooms on time. But hey, I really have no compassion, he knows that I would trade places with him any moment and he also knows that in spite of everything he still has got the best end of the deal.

Resting somehow does not become me, I really have to put my mind into it to make it work. I have the sneaky feeling that in the three weeks that I have before due date, I will not succeed in becoming proficient at this. After the baby will be born I will probably be phisically impaired for a few days which will confine me to bed, but this is not really the same as consciously decide to do nothing even though you could do something. Maybe I will ask for advice to my female neighbours, they seem to have a real good hang on this, after all we live in Eindhoven's Winsteria Lane!
