The nanny diaries

As I have promise you here is a faithful recounting of the events that brought us to hire a new nanny.
After four years of faithful service our nanny had decided that working was not something that she actually wanted to do. God bless people that can think like that, but anyway she gave us ample margin to go look for a replacement. Since I was quite busy with work related traveling and other stuff Dennis took the matter in his hands. As a true Mr. Banks he published an add on a couple of specialized sites, looking for a qualified and referenced nanny for an adorable eight years old. Five days a week, no cleaning or cooking, negotiable salary.
A bit put off by the fact that nobody was answering to the add, our own Mr Banks started to look at possible candidates on the same specialized site.
Now after looking at the preselection of possible candidates that he sent me someone at the office started to wonder, was that a specialized nanny site or Tinder? I decided to pay no attention to the remark and to fully trust the intentions of my honorable husband.
To prove him my complete trust I gave him my blessings to contact all the candidates in the pre selection included the ones with double D cup size and Botox lips. I have nothing to fear haven't I?
Unfortunately none of the contacts proved to be available.
My husband started to loose faith even though we had started the search only since a few weeks. As often happens the reactions started to fly in when we least expected and of course when I was again away on business.
The modern dad is not scared by anything so my husband took on also the task of interviewing several candidates during my absence. Every evening I got detailed reports of the proceedings.
Unfortunately no one seemed to be the perfect candidate, one was too old, another one was too young, another one too inexperienced and another one too Dutch. The one that seemed best suited was of course not available everyday.
When I got back to town we decided I would also interview some of the candidates, to see whether I could see something in any of them.
I had to basically come to the same conclusions as my husband (no surprise that we still live under the same roof after 15 years), we decided anyway to try sub-optimal and see how this would go. Does not sound like me "sub-optimal" does it? I did it anyway though.
The chosen candidate had a diploma in the healthcare direction but had actually never worked in that field. She was employed by a known mecatronics company, working in production. I have to say that this experience kind of qualified her to me as a reliable piece of work. I had the definite impression that the no nonsense business environment she was working in had thought her a few things about being dependable and reasonable. These I can tell you are relatively rare qualities among the group of people who go for care kind of jobs. I was sold to the concept!
Time will of course tell us whether we made a good choice, so far so good but too early to say.
