From the glass house

I am still ill, confined in bed weak and full of pain. This is sending me positively insane especially because there is not so much that can be done, or better, I would probably benefit from some antibiotics but do not forget that we are in the Netherlands so if you are still able to post something on your blog this means that you are not dying, therefore you are not entitled yet to antibiotics.
My mother is sending me crazy with all kind of healing schemes that she has heard of via via, and it takes me some considerable effort to debunk this examples of pseudo science one at the time without hurting her feelings.
Oliver is doing fine, poor kid, I cannot blame him, he hardly ever cries, but you can be sure that if he does, there will be an immediate remark to my direct responsibility for his crying, "he has not been fed enough", "he has been fed too much", "he has not been changed on time" and so on.
I am surprised nobody has started complaining yet about the quality of my feeding with respect to possible stomach craps for Oliver, according to the wisdom from the past you should not eat the following food groups

1) Vegetables with an aggressive smell (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli like stuff)
2) Pies, chickpies, lentils
3) Anything spicy
4) Chocolate

Next to the known fact that you cannot drink alcohol (but this is not too bad for me)

I had always kind of understood the possible impact of food group 1,2 and 3 but chocolate? Is it not just a way to torture women? Just a way to train their character and let them prove their will to unconditionally make sacrifice for their kid. I guess to train them in view of possible future events.
I am making a plea for women in general on this one, since I do not like chocolate myself, therefore I would not miss it anyway and no sacrifice would be made.

How old fashioned does this sound, or better, not worth of the level of development we have achieved in western Europe in the 21st century. But you know on this topic you will always be surprised on how deeply rooted certain old fashioned convictions can be.
My nurse definitely had the power of amazing me on this point. She was telling me how she had been to India as a volunteer helping mothers in disadvantaged neighborhoods of Calcutta. She was very openly saying that she had difficulties adjusting to the mentality there, I thought that it was reasonable enough untill she told me why. "You know" she said "with respect to first infancy baby caring and breasfeeding, we here in the Netherlands really connect to the African ways"
"!$?!@*&" I thought! Which African ways was she talking about? The ones that raise children soldiers or the ones that send children down the diamond mines?
I need to go back to civilized society, this is a cry for help! Let me out of here!
