The unusual traveler

I could not resist to blog from the train, something I have never done before.
I am  definitely not a regular train user therefore I should not miss this opportunity.
It is 7 in the morning and I am heading to Amsterdam on business.
Around me most of the passengers definitely seem regulars, thermo bottles full of coffee, lecture notes and other traveling aides clearly indicate what you need to survive and maybe enjoy your daily commute.
It reminds of my true urban self going to school with the subway, a galaxy away from my life of today. Unbelievable how suburban I have become!
But back to the commute, in spite of how relaxed these people seem the commuter life is no joke.
The trains are mostly overcrowded and the trajectory from station A to station B is all but deterministic, depending on the weather, the falling leaves, the maintenance schedule and Heaven knows what else.
As a clear newby on the train and traveling with a pretty conspicuous laptop bag I am the perfect target for NS laptop snatchers. The good news is that I am aware of that, so I try to keep a good eye on my stuff.
In spite of all these dangers  (the train is so crowded that if the guy at the far end of my compartment has either a virus or bacterial infection I am likely to catch it too) I still prefer the train to taking my chances on the infamous A2 highway heading to Amsterdam at 7 in the morning.
All in all this urban escapade will do me good, reconnect me with my better self, give me a breath of polluted air before I return to my semi-bucolic homestead.
