A road trip

In spite of the storm and the incredibly strong wind I took a road trip to Maastricht yesterday, destination Academic Hospital. We are old customers of this hospital since Nora has been admitted there more than once. This time was for me though. Apparently I needed a special growth echography that in the small and provincial Eindhoven was not available.

The gynecologist is still puzzling on why the baby seems to have such a large belly. The echoscopist measured everything that was measureable and concluded more or less what all the other three echoscopists had already concluded in the last few weeks. The baby is just fat because he gets a lot of food. Well to a lot of you it might not come as a surprice. You can start being a foodie already in your mother's belly.

It remains a mystery what they are planning to do with my delivery, I hope I will get to hear it in my next medical check this Friday.

It is unbelievable how skewed the system is. During my first pregnancy they would have happily seen me give birth under a bridge or in whatever other place Dutch mothers find "gezelling". Nine months without ever seing a proper doctor (you know those with a Medical School degree and a specialization after it).
Now since the baby has a small deviation from the growth curve they are unleashing the nuclear arsenal of medicine on me. Not that I mind of course, you know that for Italians the medical care that you receive is never too much. But one can't avoid wondering whether this is a wise way to handle medical care.

By the way, do you want to know what is the latest trend in giving birth? Apparently it is called Lotus Delivery (it seems to come from Australia) and it is becoming quite popular in the Netherlands. It entails that the kid is kept attached to the placenta untill the ombelical cord falls off by itself, which b.t.w. might take up to a week.Yakki!!!! It takes really a lot of effort to be trendy these days.
Somehow Tom Cruise eating a piece of fried placenta when Suri was born does not sound so crazy anymore.
