Oliver Day One

Here I am in what is probably going to be my favourite period of the whole maternity leave, the so called "kraambed".This is the time just after giving birth in which you are at home with an army of people taking care of you (and of the baby of course).
I have been bashing tremendously at the Dutch care system but I have to say that the only thing they really got right is the early post-natal care. You can go back to your house with a nurse taking care of you and the baby everyday. Quite a luxurious situation, I wonder how long it will take before insurance companies will refuse to pay for it any longer.
The lady that I have got is competent and not irritating, I could not ask for more. She seems to cope well with the fact that the house is constantly full of people. Yesterday the whole Dutch side of the family and today the whole Italian one. From tomorrow on it will probably be quiter.
Having my delivery coincided with the holy celebration of Easter and with the arrival of my parents from Brussel with a copious traditional Easter food supply, my first day of home rest has been celebrated with a lot of delicious food served in bed and with the sporadic care of little Oliver.
As long as you surrender to your function of milk provider for the kid (trying not to feel too much like a cow, instead of an educated, sofisticated professional) you are really pampered, appreciated and  you are not expected to do anything else.Life can be that simple.
Oliver is making my life also quite easy so far because he easily drinks, not too often, and he sleeps a lot between one feed and the other, also at night. What can I say, so far so good.
The delivery with all its pain is behind me, Oliver is healthy, Nora is very happy and excited, Dennis is taking his limited tasks not too reluctantly and my parents are not making me too crazy, in short the wind seems to blow in the right direction. But you know the wind might always change.
